Lawrie received his B.A. from McMaster University before attending Dalhousie University Law School, where he received his L.L.B.

Lawrie has been practicing law in Toronto since 1981. He practices law in the following areas:

• Real estate
• Mortgage financing
• Commercial leasing
• Corporate Law
• Buying and selling businesses for buyers and sellers of franchised and non-franchised businesses
